a link to a great place in michigan, very near to where our one delcamper, larosec, lives. i used to live even closer to this place years ago when my dad was stationed at a now closed u.s. air force base. it sits in a national forest which is so beautiful and great for camping. also fishing. now, this wonderful minature railroad, open only in the summers.

Yes, you're right Michigan is a Marvelous State.
We have lot of water, sandy beaches for the summer, and snow (a lot of it) in Winter.
Probably why lot of our retiree move to Florida, your State, for at least 4 months !
But like everything, there is another side of Michigan.
We also have Detroit, a few miles away, now ranking at the top of the most dangerous city Link (http)
but my suburb is among the safest in the nation
To go back to the festive colors & ornaments:
This is a nice touch, I appreciate to see Sebastian doing this change once a year.

Here in Spain Christmas is much less commercial thankfully although as more English speaking arrive in the area it is creeping in.
Thank you all at Delcampe for your hard work during a difficult year. It is appreciated.
Christmas Blessings to all.

Why don't they do it on Dec 1?
Well, we have here in Belgium (and in the Netherlands and maybe some other EU-countries too) on Dec 6 another guy with a red suit (especially for the children), who comes on his horse to throw gifts for the children though the chimney.
That guy is called in French St-Nicolas and in Dutch Sinterklaas.
(in fact the word Santa Claus is derived from Sinterklaas)
The Dutch immigrants brought it in the 18 th - 19 th century to the US and Sinterklaas became Santa Claus.
Somewhere along the line December 6 was forgotten and Sinterklaas or Santa claus became associated with Christmas.
The G.I.'s brought back Santa Claus to Europe in WW II, so now we're celebrating over here 2 different guys with a white beard on 2 seperate dates, while in fact it's just one guy.
This only to explain why the Christmas (and especially Santa Claus) hype doesn't start until after Sinterklaas has dropped his toys on December, 6.
We don't want to confuse to littel guys here too much with having Santa running around, while Sint still yet has to come.

bonjour aapshop,
that only adds to the confusion as to why the decorations are not put up earlier. i am aware of the 'other' santas and the early xmas in europe. but it has been a tradition in england, on the dec. 25 for many centuries, if i am not mistaken. then brought to america but the settlers.
