hi seb,
i would like to see a choice of CASH payment options in either euros or u.s. dollars, or other available currencies to be incorporated into the selling options. the reason for this is that in my city in america (tampa, florida), i do not have a local bank or american express office that will exchange euros for dollars. our city which promotes tourism is far behind the times when it comes to currency exchange. you can do so at tampa international airport but at great expense for parking and exchange rate fees. that is why i give the only option of sending cash in u.s. dollars if the customer wishes to do so. i also give the option of paying by PAYPAL and MONEYBOOKERS. please consider this proposal.

Vive Paypal ! Il faut accentuer ce message.

hi y'all,
as this was an old posting, i am no longer using 'moneybookers' as they were ripoffs with high banking fees charged for retrieving 'my' money from them. but they stated 'cheap' fees on their site, the liars. so now i only use PAYPAL, the best and most economical way to do internet banking for now. when seb and his crew comes up with a better solution, then i will probably use theirs. but for now, PAYPAL is the best choice for me. of course, any seller or buyer out there can use whatever he feels comfortable with, but please research the fees charged by these companies before using them. i learned the hard way. take care.

Oh dear, I have just agreed to pay by Moneybookers for the first time.
But it is recommended by some members in eastern Europe.
Don't forget that Paypal cannot be used in eastern Europe, not even in some countries now in the European Union, and it is very difficult for them, especially now that Bidpay has stopped. These countries are often countries where cash can be stolen in the post, too, but some of them find it easy to accept cheques in sterling (perhaps also dollars and euros) without bank charges. It should be impossible for modern British cheques at least to be used except by the payee.

Paypal is best for countries where it can be used, and they ought to extend it now that eastern Europe has opened up so much. It is widely accepted in China, after all, and without any problem whatever.

hi,
the problem is getting back your money at a descent price. as you live in the u.k., you may fare better than i did. they charged me over $30. u.s. to get $87. from my account, which left me about $50. the fee was supposed to be only around $3.00. go figure. that is why i closed my account with them. and if you take it out in $20.00 u.s. increments, they would charge you $3.00 u.s. per transaction, so it ended up costing a small fortune to get back $100.00. so you see why i don't recommend them. they really are a ripoff. since they are not a true banking house, but sort of a credit house, they charge whatever a bank does for transferring your money to your bank account. and to an overseas account, that means a lot of bucks. you can bet i was really pissed when they did this to me :angryfire: , but they never got another cent from me after that. you can bite the cajun once but you ain't gonna bite him twice, too damn many gators and snakes in his swamp to learn from. y'all take care now and learn from this ol' boy. :znaika:

Hello here,

Paypal and Maneybookers are for sure quick and secure payment methods. But be careful with them because if electronic payment methods arouse sellers' trust more easily, I know by experience, being a seller myself, that here and anywhere else on the website, some crooks take advantage of it by using a stolen credit card numbers.

This is how they proceed : they send the money to your account very quickly and they always ask you to send the item ASAP. Why ? Because a few hours later, Paypal, Moneybookers or any other electronic payment method, find out the credit card is stolen and the payment is automatically cancelled.

This is what you must do : wait ! At least a couple hours and only if you are dealing with a brand new member with no feedback to rely on.

Please spread the word. I am currently working on a small guidebook to teach new internet users in general to be as careful as in the real world ;)

Yours, Pascal.

I can see that this might be a problem if you were buying a large consumer item on eBay, but in the real world not many criminals are going to steal a credit card so as to buy a stamp for their collection. For most delacampe transactions, I would have thought the risk was negligible. But I don't suppose much is posted within 2 hours anyway, especially as people tend to do these things in the evening.

The important thing is to get delcampe working smoothly for buyers outside France and Belgium by encouraging more French and Belgian sellers to accept Paypal without fuss.

hi pascal,
this is good advice. credit card theft is rampant in america as you have seen on our news. and so is identity theft. so the possibility of a stolen credit card can be a problem. i do not know the liabilities are to the customer for theft on a credit card, usually a $50 maximum in the u.s. but in any case, one does have to be careful upon accepting PAYPAL. many dealers and sellers don't accept it for that very reason. and that is why i don't ship my items before they are paid for. :znaika: . now that is a real good lesson for a seller to learn. don't trust anyone until your lot is paid for. even your best customers fall on hard times. and that has happened to me too. so like our friend here, just be careful out there. take care y'all. i here the fish bitin' in the swamp, come on smiley (my pet gator) get into the bateaux and let's get some catfish today.

Our French and Belgian friends are as likely to send something before it is paid for as they are to go fishing for catfish with a pet alligator.

Even the people of Nimes do not fish in the Camargue with crocodiles, so no need to worry really. You seem to live in another world.

The crocodile is to be seen everywhere in Nimes, I assure you.
And there are cowboys in the Camargue, real ones ....

Whereas in England most of the cowboys are builders.

In the River Thames it is possible for people swimming to be bitten by a pike, but it doesn't happen very often. The pikes used to guard the Lord Mayor of London draw blood even less often.

hi,
i know about them pikes and muskies. i lived in michigan as an air force brat with my dad. and they got some teeth, just like the barracuda here in florida where i live now. as for the real world, i am a purple heart vietnam veteran with my son who is an iraq war veteran just returned from there this past august. my dad was a mastersgt. in the army/air force for 28 years until his death on active duty here in tampa, fla. in 1968 while i was at fort dix. both mom and dad were born in baton rouge, louisiana and i have lived in my home state for a few years while dad was overseas on duty. i settled here in tampa after retiring from the army when i was shot through my neck in vietnam in 1969. we have better veteran's hospitals here that were closer to travel to. and the climate is so nice in the winter. and even smiley likes it, he has all his cousins, some even work at busch gardens along with the crocodiles. well, take care my limey friend and i say that with much affection as my dad was stationed in england during the 50's and loved it. and my brother, an international lawyer, has his law office in london. a small world indeed.

Forgetting the reptiles and dangerous fish for a moment, I have now joined moneybookers and successfully paid one seller in Bosnia and another in Croatia with it. The Croatian had only just joined at my suggestion, and found it very easy to do so, just as easy as I did.

It is cheap and works well. The cost to the buyer is negligible, being (at least from the UK) a percentage but with 50 pence the maximum . However, you cannot pay until you have transferred money (free in the UK) from your bank account to your moneybookers account, which takes about a week. If you used it a lot, you would want to keep money in the account all the time (as you do in your current account, after all).

So I would recommend it very strongly for countries which cannot use Paypal, that is most of eastern Europe and most fairly obscure countries in the world (but China can use Paypal, and makes very good use of it). It does seem to regard the USA as a less than privileged country, but that makes a change. In contrast, Poland and almost all east European countries (but not the former Yugoslavia) are especially well catered for. It can be used however for the former Yugoslavia in its basic form, as mentioned above. See the moneybookers website for details.

Sorry, the maximum is 50 eurocents not 50 pence, and this seems to apply to all countries. The percentage is 1% .

So if you pay 15 euros for something, it costs you 15 cents. The seller receives the 15 euros in his moneybookers account free, and can use it to pay for something else, but if he wants to transfer money from his moneybookers account to his bank account ( or otherwise to get the actual money) that is not free, see moneybookers website. The charges are laid down very clearly, and it is difficult to see where our swamp-dwelling friend in the land of the free went wrong.

Moneybookers is based in London and is controlled by the usual UK governmental authorities for financial institutions (in fact the same as Paypal Europe --- why isn't there one in France or Germany ?) .
