As a China collector and seller , Delcampe is more and more irritating me, with over 30.000 items in just one category....
It pisses me off so much !!!!!! Last 12 months I have suggested it more than 10 times to split China Philately..I even have NOT had any reaction from Delcampe's team.
Once a month I take a look in China-cat...and I stop browsing as soon as I see that nothing has changed, in the mean time the most stupid sub-categories are added on the site
And as a Gold-Member there was promised personal Help and so on....!!??!!??
Forget it.. Never I have had any message regarding this issue.
Should I go back where I came from...? Ebay/Stampwants?
I think they just do not care less or more ! it is a shame

bonjour kalf,
ever get a response to this category? maybe our friend 'postlynx' could stir the mud a bit and get things rolling. he seems to publish long lists of category changes for delcampe to survey. almost too long, i go to sleep reading them. try not to lose your temper or get your blood pressure up too high over this kind of stuff. it ain't worth it. life's too short, relax and enjoy it. take care mon ami.

bonjour frans,
well, my past 2 months have not done quite that well, but then i am not a power seller, just a stamp collector sellin' his extras. the extra money supports my hobby. i think it is a losing proposition. but more entertaining than the one armed bandits at the casinos. i can always come back to my colorful treasures and view them with pride. and share them with my friends and family.

I have the same problem with Philippines Stamps. Its a pain in the ass trying to search for new listings!!! I would like to see a NEW SUB SEARCH CATEGORY like eBay has: "NEWLY LISTED ITEMS" along with the dates they were listed. This should be a BUYER FRIENDLY SITE!!!! I wish delcampe would get their heads out of their asses because its the buyers that keep this site going. LISTING BY THE SELLERS/STORES in a category instead of grouping them all together would also be of help, then have the sub category newly listed would be infinitesimal in searching categories!!!! In the long run it would be beneficial to delcampe, sellers, and buyers. Maybe we can start a petition to bring it to their attention.
I know they do listen, they are taking one of my suggestions under consideration in the next meeting about fake/copy/reproduction coins.

Hi Guys,
It's good to see you back Cajun I've missed your comments. Like you I only sell to finance my hobby so it must be frustrating not to get suggestions acknowledged. However could I just put a little comment over some of the language used. I know there are youngsters using the site and I think they get enough language on the TV without it creeping onto this site. I hope I have not offended anyone that is not my intention.
Have a relaxing day guys!
Sandy

Hi, 40-- I think what you're asking for is possible. When looking at a category, there is a "Content" sidebar on the screen with these (and more) options to check off. DON'T FORGET TO CLICK ON 'APPLY' after checking the boxes you want to use.

One problem I have noticed is that if I modify a sale from auction to fixed price, say, it appears as 'new' even if it technically isn't something being listed for the first time. But this should be rare and should help you pare down what you have to wade through.

As long we have sellers and buyers of 0.01 ct stamps. Of countries having the stamps printed somewhere else, because they do not even have printing presses. As long we accept "POSTAGE STAMPS", never intended to be used as stamps to mail letters. We will have conditions like you are complaining. Today we have sellers making more money with SHIPPING & HANDLING as with the STAMPS they offer for 0.01 !!
What a waste of time and effort.

What's wrong with language ?
We would find it very difficult to communicate without it.
I think it's all to the good that children sometimes do listen to actual sentences on television rather than just watching cartoons .
It is however against the charter to use any other language than English on the English Forum , unless of course this is with an English translation.

The allocation of categories is certainly variable. For example, if you look at French Banknotes it is very detailed and specific . It looks rather as though they got a bit tired when they got further from home.

bonjour rogermo,
i think sandy means 'cussin'. and yes, we ol' timers have been guilty of doing that in the past and must watch ourselves when we are on the net. we must forget our anger and frustrations when conveying our thoughts on the web where young minds are reading. esp., young collectors like my grandkids. don't get me wrong, i ain't no perfect person around my kids and grandkids. and when i get mad, cajun lets loose what he thinks and says what he wants. guess my wife needs to whack me once and a while for cussin', but then i would be pretty black and blue after being married to her for 32 years. but here, we must maintain some good posturing for the kids. after all, we just celebrated mother and father's day but that should be everyday. let's just get along and keep out of trouble. i have a hard enough time putting up with that idiot in the white house, and i cuss him everyday.

Dear,
We now have more than 18,000 categories and add new ones each week. Did you send us a proposal for a break down of the category ? Most of the time, philatelic categories are made by myself based on specialized catalogs.
Presently, I do not own any chinese catalog. If you can advice me one and say where I can buy it online, I will buy it and begin building the categories with Christine.
Note that we put highest priority on the biggest categories, which is probably the case for China.

The Commonwealth needs sorting out for stamps, coins and banknotes.
I think this has been pointed out before.
It is even bigger than China, and certainly more complicated.

The present lack of system here is a big drawback to the very many British collectors, especially of stamps, who only collect the Commonwealth.
It is enough to completely discourage many of them from using delcampe.

Dear Seb,
This is a link that I posted 11 December 2006, without any answer...
would lead to a lot of trouble, because these categories already exist under France, Allemagne, etc ! They are quite small categories, and you don't want the material split between two different places, some buyers being aware of one and not the other (unless delcampe automatically arranged a listing in both places).
This is essentially the problem with many Commonwealth countries. Few French sellers would know whether particular stamps from (say) Nigeria were truly colonial or from the independent country; few even realise that Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and India were not colonies at all. So you get total confusion. One solution would be to treat the Commonwealth as if it were a continent. So all stamps for Nigeria would go under Commonwealth, Nigeria. They would not go under Europe, Great Britain, Colonies, and they would not go under Africa. At least they would all be together, they would not be confused with Niger, and they would be close alphabetically to Mauritius and Nyasaland, Mauritius whether independent or a colony at the date of the stamp.
That's what I think, anyway, but our thoughts are only such stuff as dreams are made on (Shakespeare).

The Commonwealth problem is bigger that the China problem.
There are currently 31,449 sales under China, probably most of them correctly placed under China.
Under Europe>Great Britain>Colonies there are 15,308 sales, so half as many, but this doesn’t count the huge numbers of Commonwealth stamps elsewhere.
For example, under Europe>Great Britain>Colonies I can find 53 sales from Cyprus, but quite separately under Europe>Cyprus there are 6,254 sales, very many of them being identical colonial stamps right back to Queen Victoria.
Under Europe>Great Britain>Colonies I can find 102 sales from Seychelles, but quite separately under Africa>Seychelles I can find 882 sales, many of them identical colonial stamps right back to Queen Victoria. Equally, many stamps from the independent Commonwealth country are included under Europe>Great Britain>Colonies. (Seychelles became independent in 1976, but can we expect all delcampers to know this or to place their stamps accordingly?) .
The problem is even worse than this, because I was searching in English to find 53 Cyprus sales under Europe>Great Britain>Colonies. If I search for Chypre or Cipro, more turn up, and I don’t know the Dutch or Spanish for Cyprus. The German is something beginning with Z.
I don’t see the point of “organising” it like this. It doesn’t work, and it will never work.
Do Canadians really want 82 sales classed at random as
Europe>Great Britain>Colonies
while 45,856 are under America>Canada, carefully subdivided , with a division for “1851-1864 Colony of Canada” containing 96 sales ?
Would it be allowed to place sales also from the independent USA under
Europe>Great Britain>Colonies ?
Or Canada under Europe>France>Colonies ?
I don’t see why not. It’s no worse than including under
Europe>Great Britain>Colonies
the stamps issued by Sudan after it left the Commonwealth completely.

Totally agree...!!!!!!
Because of the different cat's I decided to write a program to analyse these categrories for selling..
to find out in which categrory you should offer your Br.Commonwealth....Updates soon.. ;-)
Best regards, Frans Kalf
It's interesting that you have written this programme, but I don't really understand how to use it or what it does. It would be unrealistic to expect all delcampers to use it, and it shouldn't be necessary. This should be within the website .
I'm sure you will agree, because this is where we started, that the real challenge is to get delcampe to reorganise its categories, and also redefine them to help members (for example, if it has a category for Burma within the Commonwealth, it could offer the hint "until 1948", but not many countries left the Commonwealth after independence, so this would not be a lot of work). They need to get rid of that category for British Colonies, except perhaps as "Miscellaneous British Territories" to include stamps with nowhere else to go, because this is what is causing most of the confusion, and it isn't helpful to have it.
How do we get delcampe to see that they have a problem here, and to act on it, though ?
