New to this site. I have a bunch of stamps, all countries, various ages. I'm wondering how I can determine their worth. Is there a philately search engine or appraisal service somewhere?

hi GF,
as a newcomer to stamp collecting aka philately and delcampe, welcome. to answer your question from an ol' philatelist, as you live in the u.s., try your local library and see if they have some scott catalogs you can check out or use in the library to look up your stamps. you should also become familiar with philatelic terms and read the front of the catalogs as that has good information to help first time learners. also here is a good site to help you:
this is the american philatelic organization or APS for short. this site has a lot of help for beginners. and other links that will help too. if you need any more help, i and many other delcampers are here to assist you. have fun with this hobby, you will learn much from it. i have in the 40+ years i have been doing it.

P.S.-you will find more help from us if you leave messages under the philatelic section of the forum.

Greetings,
Thank you for your kind and useful advice. I visit the library almost every day, and will look into the resources you suggested.
The thing is, I'm not new to philately. I started collecting stamps nearly 30 years ago. But the collection has been sitting in the attic [where it's dry and has stable temps] for years. I just pulled it out the other day, and was astounded at how many stamps I have.
So, I'm looking for a way to determine their value and offer them to other philatelists.
I'll do some research. Thanks for the welcome to this site. I expect you'll hear further from me.
I have a coin collection too, but that's another story :-)

hi glenn,
as for the coins, we have experts for them as well. and welcome back to the hobby. i'm sure your library will have an up to date or very recent scott catalog. also there is a free online site for stanley gibbons, but with no images, but still an excellent source of information:
