Patron Saints: St. Notburga with the Official Special Postmark of Maurach

Notburga is one of the most worshipped saints in Tyrol. Hardly any historical data is available about her life, and it was on the basis of legends that the 17th century Hall monastery physician Hippolyt Guarinoni wrote her biography. St. Notburga was a typical figure of the late Middle Ages, living 50 years after St Francis and St Elizabeth of Thuringia, whose efforts to help the poor started a new movement in the Middle Ages. Notburga, neither a noblewoman nor a nun, but a simple woman from amongst the people, served as a role model particular in Tyrol.
